Many people thank that having dental implants is going to be too expensive as they are so high tech. This, however, is not the case at our dental centre. We have been placing implants for over a decade and as we buy our implants in bulk, we are able to pass on significant savings to our patients. In fact, the cost of dental implant treatment at our practice is not that different to what you would pay for a conventional bridge elsewhere. When you then consider that bridges usually last for between 7-15 years and involve the drilling down of teeth whereas implants usually last for a lifetime and do not require drilling of teeth, implants are far more cost-effective and less destructive than bridges.

Children’s dentistry in Princes Risborough

Taking good care of your children’s teeth from an early age is vital if you want to make sure they don’t end up with toothache. Just because they will lose their milk teeth and grow adult ones, doesn’t mean they don’t need to be taught oral care.

From the moment they start to appear, your children’s teeth are just as susceptible to decay and other problems as your own teeth are.

For babies the key steps to avoiding problems in the future are to offer only milk and water when using a bottle, never juice or squash, and to start cleaning your child’s teeth twice a day as soon as they start to come through.

Initially, you should use a child’s toothbrush with a small amount of children’s toothpaste. It is easier to stand or sit behind your child so that you can clean their teeth more effectively. Brush gently in small circular movements and remember to brush along the gumline as well as the teeth. Even when your child can clean their own teeth, you should continue to supervise them.

Seeing a dentist regularly is important for your child. You should start to bring your child with you to appointments even before their own teeth appear, so they can get used to the sights, smells and sounds of the practice. These will be fairly informal, but enable us to keep a close eye on how your child’s teeth are developing. We offer free examinations on all children under 5 years if a parent is registered with us.

Last but certainly not least, discouraging your child from eating sugary snacks and drinking sweet and/or fizzy drinks in between meals will help keep the teeth healthier. Frequent consumption of these is the main cause of tooth decay and acid erosion.

Dental implants are better than bridges

After your dentist has extracted a tooth, you have three options to replace the missing tooth:

A denture
A dental bridge
A dental implant

Nobody would like to wear a denture, especially for just a single missing tooth. That leaves either a bridge or a dental implant. The treatment time needed for a bridge is much shorter than that for a dental implant and as it doesn’t involve surgery, you may feel more confident with this option. It is important to realise that a bridge has a major disadvantage. It uses your adjacent natural teeth for support and this exerts extra pressure on these teeth which eventually can cause major problems.
